Number Plate Woes, Difficulties and at last – Success!

My A90 Atlantic was registered in Victoria, by me in 1967, as JXM 513. After moving to Qld I handed the number plates in to Qld Transport. Years later when Personalised plates became available, I went to the local QT office and asked the lady could I order a set of personalised plates with ANINET (A90) on them.

Yes she said and it will cost you $1500. Well that was not going to happen so back to the drawing board, no computers in those days. A week later and I order MYA90, only about $200. They sat in the cupboard in the shed for 25 years, all wrapped up.

When Kathryn bought her A90 about 10 years ago it was unregistered. So to get it registered I had to get it up to scratch, which was not a simple job but that is another story. When we finally registered it, I “Gifted” the MYA90 plates to her and they are on the green A90 you have seen around. So there I was with no number plates, and I started looking on the QT website. No way could I get the original Victorian plate number, at the time it was 2 letters and 3 numbers or 2 numbers and 3 letters. Some years later when the Euro style plates came out, I bought “Q AA90 Z”. Not long ago, I had another look at the web site and I reversed the numbers and letters to 513 JXM, thinking that this will be close to original. The answer came back, “That combination is not available but we have made suggestions for you” - slap bang in the middle of the page, amongst about 40 combinations, was JXM 513!!

That turned out to be the easy bit, now I had to pay for them. Armed with credit card I started. Auto fill wanted to do most of it for me so I let it, clicked on “Submit” and it said “Incorrect address” What, I’ve been here 10 years. So I tried the postal address, same result. Now back in February 2018, Australia Post changed our postcode from 4306 to 4314, no big deal you would think. QT’s site had used 4314, so I did a manual entry and used 4306, same result, “Incorrect address”, I then used the postal address with the same result. No matter what I or my Excel expert did, I kept getting “Incorrect address”. Now I had a problem, I had ordered the plates but could not pay for them.

Answer, I changed the address to my sons address in Keperra and they arrived soon after.

PS: In case you are wondering, I do have a home for the Euro plates.
