Club run to Scarborough
“Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noonday sun”, so wrote Noel Coward. Add to that the Austin Motor Vehicle Club of Qld.
We were there, too, Sunday, 16 February 2020 for our monthly club run, this time to Nudgee Beach, Shorncliffe and Scarborough. Very hot – very humid, but eleven Austins made it out for a jaunt to Scarborough—no plastic cars in the line up. On reading Club happenings for 2015, I discovered that the Feb run was to Redcliffe—same weather ‘HOT HUMID !’ Same number of cars with one modern.
Unfortunately Nairn and Joey exited from Nudgee Beach. Joey needing TLC because of an ant bite. Enjoyed the air conditioning when he got home as did Nairn, I’m guessing!
The second stop was at Shorncliffe where Rex, Heather, Glenn, Doug, Lieka, Bob, Fiona, Ken and Des joined the crew. Very happy to be under cover for morning tea.
Heather and Glenn made the trip from Witta in the A 30. No mean feat considering they are in the midst of packing and moving house.
Our visitors left us at Shorncliffe and the nine remaining cars set out for Scarborough and Fish n ‘Chips At Morgan’s seafood.
Shade was at a premium. Unfortunately the mossies were hiding in the shade with us.
Fish n chips were consumed and plenty of conversation was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Mark and Christine for the organisation of the first run for the year.

The Advance Party — Club members, Brian, Lorraine, Paula, Kev, Jayne, Christine, Mark and Nairn were joined by visitors Tony and Katrina van Wendt and the dogs Mammy and Joey. Three of the eleven Austins - 1800, A30 , Freeway lined up ready to leave Nudgee Beach. Tony and Katrina own the blue A90 bought from a former member Des Dale.
